The Sundridge Sluggers were crowned champions of the 2026 Almaguin Minor Softball Association Tournament following an exciting two-day event in Kearney, completing their second repeat as the finals winners.

All six AMSA teams took part in the tournament, which began with round-robin play on Saturday. Rain throughout the opening day created some challenging conditions, but the players, coaches and volunteers worked together to keep the games moving and the tournament on schedule.

At the conclusion of the round-robin portion, the Sundridge Sluggers had earned the first seed. The Perry Roughnecks finished as the second seed, followed by the Sprucedale Steamrollers in third and the Burk’s Falls Boltz in fourth. The Kearney Koyotes finished in the fifth seed, while the Magnetawan Bears were seeded sixth.

The elimination portion of the tournament continued on Sunday. In the semifinals, the Steamrollers defeated the Roughnecks, while the Sluggers defeated the Boltz. Those victories sent Sundridge and Sprucedale to the Championship Game.

The Sluggers completed their strong tournament run with a victory over the Steamrollers to capture the 2026 AMSA Tournament Championship. Sprucedale finished second overall following an impressive weekend of softball.

The semifinal losses sent Perry and Burk’s Falls to the Consolation Game, where the Roughnecks defeated the Boltz to claim the consolation trophy. Perry finished third overall, while Burk’s Falls placed fourth.

The host Kearney Koyotes and Magnetawan Bears finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Despite the rainy weather on Saturday and a few unexpected challenges throughout the weekend, the tournament was considered a great success. The AMSA thanked every player, coach and volunteer who stepped in and assisted wherever needed. Their flexibility, teamwork and commitment helped ensure the young athletes were able to enjoy a memorable conclusion to the season.

A special thank you was extended to the Kearney Fire Department and the Lions Club for grilling hamburgers and hot dogs and helping keep the players, families and spectators fed throughout the weekend.

AMSA also thanks the Town of Kearney for hosting the event and the Kearney Legion for providing the use of its large parking lot. The additional space accommodated more than 100 vehicles over the course of the two-day tournament and helped reduce congestion around the ball field.

The Kearney Legion and Home Comfort Care Services were recognized as the tournament’s official sponsors. Their generous support helped the AMSA provide a positive and affordable sporting experience for young athletes from across the Almaguin region.

The tournament marked the conclusion of the AMSA’s inaugural season as an independent, volunteer-operated association. Further information about the association’s upcoming Annual General Meeting will be distributed at a later date, with every player invited to attend.
